Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel wrote:

“In those times there was darkness everywhere. In heaven and on earth, all the gates of compassion seemed to have been closed… The outside world adopted an attitude of either complicity or of indifference. Only a few had the courage to care…”

A new gate of compassion has opened wide inKansas City’s Midtown district. Planted in the heart of a community where darkness hovers over persons who are jobless, homeless, addicted or disenfranchised is Trinity Family Church-Midtown. With the courage to care in the face of complicity, indifference and “conventional” ministry practices, TFC-Midtown meets, embraces and serves people right where they are.  Members of the LGBT community, many of which are teenagers who are homeless due to being shunned by their families or friends, are also finding a safe haven with the pastors and people of TFC-Midtown.

KidsTLC is in continual pursuit of networking and partnerships with other agencies and organizations diligently working to provide hope and services to persons in need. KidsTLC’s Jason Stary (Street Outreach Services) and Chaplain James “Jamos” Amos recently attended TFC-Midtown’s Open House. Terrific stories of restoration and reconciliation were shared. Dialogue is in progress with the TFC-Midtown leadership team as to how we may brighten and shine the light of each other’s services on those whose worlds are enveloped in darkness.
